Flight was not a new idea, but for the first time in 1903, the Wright brothers successfully designed and flew the first airplane, inspiring the production of other airplanes, and leading to the first commercial airline in 1914.

The airplane was an innovation that significantly impacted and changed peoples lives by improving travel and shipping times, by expanding access to rural areas, by improving military tactics and possibilities, by improving high altitude science and meteorology, and by providing millions of jobs to people around the world.
